will hold a seminar on “Plurilingualism and school in the archives: an experience of document valorization and intergenerational collaboration in translations”.
The proposed seminar includes two brief introductory presentations by those involved in the study: the Diocesan Historical Archives of Reggio Calabria, in collaboration with Scuola Italiana in piazza, an Italian school for foreigners set up in open spaces in Reggio di Calabria. The central phase of the seminar illustrates the experimental course of a laboratory for the translation of documents of the 19th and 20th centuries, kept in the Diocesan Historical Archive of Reggio Calabria. The above-mentioned workshop involved foreign minors and adults with an intermediate level of knowledge of Italian, from the point of view of written and oral production and comprehension.
The criterion of document selection and the subsequent phase of simplification, prior to the presentation of the texts to the students for translation, will be presented.
The dynamics of cooperation and the cultural and multilingual interaction between adults and minors of two families of Syrian and Iraqi origin during the process of translation of the written testimonies into the mother tongue and other languages known by the families will be described. The role of supervision will be clarified, held by teachers of Italian language and culture for foreigners, whose intervention consisted in the observation and clarification of linguistic and cultural content in the texts.
In conclusion, there will be a reflection on the consolidation of affective and cultural ties within the family nuclei in the process of interaction in different languages.
The hypothesis on the positive role of the exchange of linguistic knowledge between generations will be considered, during the course of the translation, for the acquisition of the Italian language and the strengthening of the language and culture of origin.
